UNIFORM

💙 Uniform builds unity, focus, and pride.

TFX Uniform & Dress Code

A uniform is an important part of being a member of TFX Performing Arts Academy. When students look ready, they dance ready.

Why is the dress code important?

Safety
Appropriate dancewear (dance wear, leotard, tights, correct shoes, and hair secured) keeps classes safe and distraction-free. Ill fitting clothing and jewellery can be hazardous during movement.
Medic alert bracelets are permitted.

Technique & Learning
Proper attire allows teachers to clearly see posture, alignment, and movement, ensuring students receive accurate corrections and develop correct technique.

Comfort & Confidence
Our dress code helps students feel comfortable, supported, and confident in class—covered appropriately without restricting movement.

Respect & Focus
Wearing uniform shows respect for teachers, classmates, and the class environment. It helps minimise distractions and shows students are prepared to learn.

Practicality
Branded dance wear, leotards and tights are the standard for dance training and often form the base for costumes. Just like other sports have kit, dance has uniform to allow freedom of movement and effective training.

Belonging & Pride
Uniform creates a sense of identity, discipline, and belonging—both in the studio and out in the community. It encourages pride in both the student and the academy.

What else do I need?

Students are encouraged to label all of their dancewear and shoes, so that if they are misplaced, they can easily be returned.

Boys are encouraged to wear dance support underwear.

All dancers should also have a well-organized dance bag!

At showtime, older students are encouraged to wear a nude suit under their dance clothes and costumes (beige, brown or nude coloured under garments) to protect modesty.    Students may also need a garment bag for costumes!

How do I need to do my hair for TFX class?

Hair requirements are slightly different for various dance styles, but in general, hair should ALWAYS be put up for class, with hair off the face.

For ballet, dancers are required to wear a proper ballet bun.  Ballet hair kits are available for purchase here.

For all other classes, students should have hair up in a ponytail or other style that keeps hair pulled tightly back (braids, etc.).  Having hair groomed neatly instills a sense of discipline, is less distracting for the dancer, and allows the teacher to see the line of the neck and head properly without distraction.
